Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. (2 Corinthians 13, the Message)
I spent the first decade in my faith believing I was a solid Christian, but looking back now, I’m not certain I was even saved, let alone solid.
A tree bears witness to its kind when it produces fruit, and a Christian is evident in they way they obey, love and serve Christ. If it’s a chore to praise God for all you have and trust Him for the things you want, it might be time for a spiritual checkup.
Don’t put your trust in a prayer you prayed one day long ago or all the time you’ve spent serving since. If the light that was once in you has become dark, examine yourself, and ask God to seal His Spirit of adoption in your heart, today and always.
