Words for Your Weekend

“Joy and pain, they are but two arteries of the one heart that pumps through all those who don’t numb themselves to really living.”

Ann Voskamp

I love how honest and raw Ann Voskamp is. Yes, since finding Jesus, joy has come over me like a tidal wave in the sea. The gift of salvation, the wonder of His presence, the ebb and flow of His love.

There are times when joy retreats to the ocean and sorrow takes its place. Pain is a part of life as much as breathing is and isn’t it good to know that God is an ever present help in times of trouble? The Word gives strength and a simple prayer can turn the tide and even if circumstances don’t change, I can.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
Matthew 21:22

Hard days mean praying His promises and trusting Him minute by minute, hour by hour, or in some cases, second by second and breath by breath. It means giving thanks in both the good times and bad and giving Him praise for counting me worthy of both.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:29

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Ephesians 6:10 (the armor of God)

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1
You are my strong shield, and I trust you completely. You have helped me, and I will celebrate and thank you in song. You give strength to your people, Lord, and you save and protect your chosen ones.

Psalm 28:7-8

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand

Isaiah 41:10

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

Your Word says the joy of the Lord is _________ strength. ________ need(s) Your joy to replace all the bone-tired parts of his/her mind, body, and soul. Renew _________strength, Lord. Fill ________with your supernatural power to overcome any obstacle and walk any path . With ________eyes fixed on You, Lord, with You walking beside _________, working in and through ___________, _________can do all things.  Nothing is impossible with You.

  1. Thanks for this one!! My Mom had a mini stroke last week and we spent 2 nights and 2 days in the hospital. I stayed with her the entire time. I’m starting to feel more rested but it was a hard time. These verses are good, i need to read them.

Your comments are a blessing to me. I receive each one with gratitude.
