One of the greatest challenges to a victorious walk with Jesus is learning to trust Him with our life…from the little, day-to-day decisions, to the big, life changing ones. We’ll put our trust in our own human abilities, in our job, our bank account, the doctor, and our friends, but trust God and His Word?
That can be a whole different story.
Learning to depend on God is difficult, and for me, it comes after spending a good part of my life doing things my way, not His. Truly trusting God is not asking Him to bless what I’ve already decided to do.
Real trust means asking God first.
I’ve learned that the more I study and pray, the more I can feel Him speaking to my heart. It is then that I’m able to make decisions according to His will, as opposed to what I think, or (worse) what I feel.
When we make decisions beyond what we think and feel, and do what the Word and the Spirit tell us, we are building a bridge to trust God, and not ourselves.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Lord,
It’s so easy to put my confidence in my ability or things. Help me to see how fruitless that is. Your Word says blessed is the one who trusts in You, and builds their confidence in You. Remind me of the countless times You’ve been faithful in the past when the way isn’t clear and I’m tempted to do things on my own. I trust You to make Your will known. Your way is the best way, no matter how it looks or feels at the time.
In Jesus Name
HRD, our adversary knows if he can convince us that God is not trustworthy, we will never walk in victory. People may fail us, but God will never, ever let us down. Thanks for sharing from your heart!
That’s right gal, He is always on time! Thanks for sharing!
I was praying about this same issue last night. God is always on time, and he knows what we need before we even ask! So thankful for your post today!! I am encouraged that my trust needs to only be in him, and for everything!!
Trust has always been an issue with me in my life. As I grow in Christ I am learning though. I find that I trust Him with the really big things in life, but the smaller day to day items I do not. I pray that we are intentionally to seek Him out in every aspect of our lives and trust that He is in control. Just as Jeremiah 29:11 states: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
